Heat’s Martin and Jovic suspended for one game; Koloko of Raptors fined

October 24, 2022

Koloko was on the ground as Martin approached him because they had tangled while battling for a rebound under the hoop.

Caleb Martin of the Miami Heat has been suspended for one game without compensation for starting a fight on the court by teasing Toronto Raptors center Christian Koloko before addressing him into the stands, according to a statement released today by Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations. In addition, Koloko was assessed a $15,000 punishment for grasping Martin during the confrontation.

After the incident, the Raptors embarked on a 17-2 scoring spree before Miami tightened up to conclude the game. Heat player Nikola Jovic has also been banned for one game without pay for engaging in a confrontation while exiting the bench area. Players became tangled up while competing for a position on the rebound, which led to the incident, for which Martin and Koloko were each given one technical foul and was removed from the game. At 7:46 in the third quarter of the Heat’s 112-109 victory over the Raptors at FTX Arena on October 22, the event took place.

The Toronto player answered right away.

The Heat’s Nikola Jovic was also given a one-game suspension without pay by the NBA for leaving the bench area and becoming involved in the brawl.

The Heat will thus be without Martin and Jovic on Monday as they host the Raptors once more.
