Dru Smith Early life and high school career

Dru Smith averaged 10.5 points, 4.5 assists, and 5.4 rebounds per game as the starting point guard alongside Jaelan Sanford and Alex Stein in his junior season. Smith attended High School in FJ Reitz Evansville, Indiana.

Smith helped his team go 29-2 and advance to the Class 4A state championship game. He averaged 20.8 points, seven rebounds, 4.1 steals, and 7.3 assists per game, leading Reitz to a 22-5 record & reaching the Class 4A regional finals as a senior. Smith’s name to the Indiana All-Star team. He committed to college, playing basketball for Evansville with invitations from Ball State, Northern Kentucky, South Alabama, and Indiana.

Career in College

Evansville

Smith scored a rookie-high 19 points and made five 3-pointers for Evansville in a 109-83 loss to Wichita State on February 22, 2017. He averaged 5.3 points, 2.9 assists, & 2.6 rebounds as a freshman, earning Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) freshman honors. On December 5, 2017, Smith averaged 25 points, seven assists, and four steals on 11-for-13 shooting in a 91-76 win over Bowling Green. And he averaged 13.7 points, 4.6 assists, & two steals per game, leading the MVC in a 3-point percentage with 48.2 as a sophomore. He was named MVC’s fastest-improving team.

Missouri

Smith moved to Missouri at Xavier and Virginia Tech’s invitation after his sophomore season. He missed the following season due to NCAA transfer rules. Dru Smith had his first double-double with 22 points and ten rebounds in a 63-58 overtime loss to Xavier on November 12, 2019.

And he scored 28 points in an 85-73 win over No. 11 Auburn on February 15, 2020. Smith averaged 12.7 points, 3.9 assists, 4.2 rebounds & 2.1 steals as a junior. He recorded 64 steals, leading the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and ranking sixth in program history. Smith averaged 3.5 rebounds, 14.3 points, 3.8 assists & 2.1 steals as a senior.

Professional career

After being unselected in the 2021 NBA Draft, Smith joined the Miami Heat for the NBA Summer League 2021 and signed with the Heat on September 10. He was waived before the start of the season and joined the Sioux Falls Sky Force as an affiliate. On February 1, 2022, Smith was ruled out of the season with a knee injury and was waived. On October 13, 2022, Smith signed with the Miami Heat a two-way contract.
