Just a day ago, the Miami Heat were in the mix as potential contenders to acquire Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers. Speculation even suggested that Miami’s rising star, Tyler Herro, the 2022 Sixth Man of the Year, might be part of the trade package.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in a three-team deal involving the Phoenix Suns. At just 23 years old, Herro seems poised to continue his journey with the Heat into the 2024 season.
On Thursday afternoon, Herro shared his thoughts on the Lillard trade, becoming the second Heat player to comment on the matter (following a playful endorsement of Jimmy Butler’s joke about Milwaukee tampering).
“In all seriousness… as a kid from Milwaukee, I’m grabbing me a Dame jersey,” Herro quipped.
Herro’s connection to Milwaukee runs deep as he was born there and attended high school in Greenfield, Wisconsin, a suburb just 11 miles from Milwaukee. Notably, Herro initially committed to the University of Wisconsin before ultimately choosing to play college basketball at Kentucky on November 14, 2017.
The upcoming clash between Lillard’s new team, the Bucks, and Herro’s Miami squad is set for October 30, 2024, in Milwaukee, promising an intriguing showdown with hometown ties.
