Jimmy Butler breaks the silence by promising to ‘never’ wear a Heat jersey.

June 2, 2023
Jimmy Butler began his career with the Chicago Bulls almost 12 years ago, and he was the final selection in the 1st round of the 2011 NBA Draft. At the time, LeBron James and the Miami Heat were one of Chicago’s biggest rivalries, which prompted Butler to make a bold commitment early in his career.

In one of his early interviews, Butler said one thing he would never wear was a Miami Heat jersey. Years later, Butler failed to deliver on that promise. And he’s now the heart and soul of the Heat’s current iteration.

Butler has now broken his silence on the decade-long vow. According to the six-time All-Star, It all depends on the situation:

“When I came into the league, the Heat were always beating the Bulls when they had the Big Three, the Heat, whatever you want to call them,” Butler said. “So I got drafted by the Bulls; we can’t like the Miami Heat. Even if you guys go to the same school, you can’t like D-Wade.

“And then you fast forward, I was playing with D-Wade on the Bulls, and I was like, ‘This guy’s not a bad guy.’ It’s just (former Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau) constantly hitting me. Now, full circle, it will be The last jersey I wear.”

Butler was the sworn enemy of Heat fans in his early days in the NBA. Indeed, for the former Marquette standout, the feeling was mutual. However, as Jimmy Butler said, he has come full circle. And at this point, Miami supporters are willing to go through walls for this guy. Likewise, Butler will do the same for them.

Butler has already made another commitment here, about to retire with the Heat. Let’s aim; he keeps his word this time.
